Photographer: Mary Ellen Mark Mary Ellen Mark provides dramatic social commentary in her photo Amanda and her Cousin Amy on cigarettes in America. Mary Ellen Mark draws attention to the girl smoking the cigarette by making sure the max white of the photo falls on the girls face, the cigarette, and the smoke coming from her lips. This max white juxtaposes the max black in the photo of the natural scenery in the background which creates a sense of defiance and externality from common practice. This externality of the conceptual aspect of the photo make this photo serve as an injunction of the common place of cigarettes in america and the adverse effects this accepting nature provides and the resulting danger of the youth.

Photographer: Diane Arbus Diane Arbus captured this notable portrait of these identical twins that evoke emotions such as cuteness and creepiness. The composition of this photo with the emphasis on the twins being front and center with a nondescript background makes the viewers attention only on the twins. The max white on the twins dress's collar and the max black on the res of dress and the hair make the twine feel multidimensional giving their pose a double effect. Additionally, the blank facial expression of the twins makes them seem almost adult like however their physical person is childish. Overall, this photos is timeless with its emotional connotation.
