Photographer: Robert Frank Robert Frank captures the timeless element with this drugstore with a bar in it to show the true American life in Detroit and how people came together and relaxed. He captures this message with dramatic max white in the signs and lights as well as max black in the counter top these two opposite colors create a sense of drama. Additionally, the row of men sitting at the counter and the repetitive nature of this create a sense of togetherness among these people Robert Frank does this to show that this photo is meant to show leisure togetherness among these working class men. Overall, Robert Frank utilizes a variety of deliberate photographic techniques to create a timeless photograph.

Photographer: Steve McCurry Steve McCurry captures the emotion of this girls life though his stunning portrait of her. Steve McCurry captures emotion in this photo by ensuring the focal point of this photo is her eyes that stand out and convey her distress and pains she has had to endure in her life so far. He uses this photo to symbolize life in Afghanistan and the harsh reality many people have to face in the middle eats and the struggles people face that many people cant fathom. Her unique stare and intent is very unique and highlights her hardened persona that is a result of her life. Overall, though utilizing dramatic compostion and lighting Steve McCurry captures a very memorable and meaningful photo.
Artist: USvsHate December 2020 Contest Entry S from the USvsHate December 2020 contest in my opinion is the most universal in their message as well and the most aesthetically pleasing the overall design of the artwork. This combination of these two aspects of this artwork makes it the most effective of all the entries because one of the biggest issues in the American social-political climate is misinformation that leads people blinding believing anything they hear or read or any stray thoughts they may have they fight as if it was absolutely the truth. This artwork combats that notion by encouraging people to question their beliefs because that may not be as correct as they think. Overall, I believe this artwork is the best of the finalists because this message targets the root of many societal problems and does so in an aesthetically pleasing way.
